My first novel,
Wainscot on the Heloise, is a historical story
told from a slightly unexpected perspective, in which I was able
to incorporate both my interest in history and my fondness for small furry animals.
Sinister Creatures Lurk in the Shadows
In this story the history is the naval world of the War of 1812, and the small furry animals are rats. Rats, but not rats as you probably think of them (unless you know rats well), since my ratty characters display a wide variety of characteristics, from the evil to the truly heroic.
Struggling to survive in a world where danger lurks around every corner, the plucky protagonists of Wainscot on the Heloise face peril from men, cats, other rats, or simply the hazardous environment of a ship at war, but the hardy little rodents face often overwhelming challenge with daring, cunning, and where necessary, ferocity, always tempered by the support of their companions.
